Rot, 1721, off the coast of Barbados.
Ronald Smith was the kind of first mate who noticed things — the water running short, the rations cut to feed the captain’s table, the way “discipline” always landed on the men who spoke up. When the crew finally had enough, Ronald organized the mutiny. Not out of greed. Out of the simple math that the men shouldn’t starve to keep the captain fat.
They caught him. The captain didn’t bother with a trial — just had the carpenter lash chain shot to Ronald’s ankles and drop him over the side. The crew watched from the rail. Not one of them jumped in. Not one of them spoke. The journal entry in his pocket said it all: “The men starve. The captain grows fat. The crew watches. God help the man who tries to do right.”
But the sea gave him back — decomposed and furious. Now he walks the amethyst shoreline as a faded shadow, and wherever sailors drink too much, gamble too deep, or leave a man behind, Ronald finds them. He doesn’t preach. He doesn’t save. He takes them — drags them under, and brings them back wrong. Finally a loyal crew.
The pipe is stained deep purple. The front engraving is meant to represent the faint shadow of the monster. Zoom in, it looks amazing in full sun. There are only 20 of this one (all are numbered 1/20).
